Ditch Your Weight Loss Goals and Change Your Mindset.

I'm jumping back on to share something personal with you. Recently I started working with Adelaide Based Life and Mindset coach, Tarsha Graefe.

My life was really busy and I felt burnt out AGAIN. I have a habit of overloading myself with too many things (mainly because I get excited with all the things I want to do) but it means that I'm constantly on a cycle of reaching burnout.

I rarely had time for myself, to nourish and care for ME and I wanted to change that. I wanted to love ME more.

Starting my journey with Tarsha has been so life changing and it got me thinking about mindset and how important working on mindset is to help us be better in whatever ways we are aiming to be better.

So how does this relate to you?

Recently I’ve been tuning into my passion for helping women move away from a weight loss focus to a mindset and nourishment focus. I work with many clients who have been trying to lose weight for many years. They have tried all the current and past FAD diets and continue to feel stuck in a dieting cycle of weight loss and weight regain. They often dislike their bodies; they have negative thoughts about certain foods, extreme food fears and they restrict and binge.

Does this sound familiar?

Lots of people who want to lose weight focus on the number on the scale and follow a strict diet that is not flexible or maintainable and restricts whole food groups.

At Adelaide Nutrition we don’t promote FAD diets and we encourage our clients to focus less on numbers. We promote healthy habit change, body acceptance, intuitive eating, listening to what your body needs, food freedom and focusing on nourishing your body rather than restricting it.

Firstly, weight loss need not be the focus. What we can focus on instead is making habit changes that lead to a healthier you on the inside. The number is actually irrelevant (for many reasons and perhaps a blog for another time).

Secondly, improving your health is not only about habits and behaviours but also about our thoughts and beliefs. Your mindset is essential to making any lasting behaviour change. Working on mindset helps to achieve long term change and motivation.

Mindset refers to the perceptions and beliefs you have about yourself, which influence your behaviour, outlook and attitude. What you believe matters.

Mindset is something you can change to feel better about yourself and the environment. When we are happier and more positive, we are more likely to try harder to reach our goals and continue along the challenging journey. A broad and long-term approach is important.

If you're ready for a new approach to your “weight loss” journey, working on your mindset is a great place to start.

We suggest; Investing in a mindset coach alongside your Accredited Practicing Dietitian, mapping out your vision and values, create smart goals and focus on nourishing your body and moving your body daily.

“Everything comes down to mindset. It doesn’t matter what you’re struggling with, whether it’s body confidence, losing weight or feeling sexy AF in that bikini. If you have a mind that’s sabotaging you, that’s putting you down, that’s telling you you’re a failure, it’s going to make that journey so much harder, or in some cases completely unattainable. Imagine if you were able to speak to yourself & treat yourself like your own best friend. With kindness. Compassion. Love. How different would your life be? How differently would you treat yourself?”

Adelaide based Life & Mindset coach Tarsha Graefe shares her views on the importance of mindset and answers my questions below:

Tell us more about you? What are your qualifications? What course did you do?

I am a BYCA Life & Mindset Coach. BYCA is an Australian based Coaching Academy named ‘Beautiful You’ founded by the formidable Julie Parker. I'm also an AHPRA Registered Occupational Therapist with additional training in Group Work + Counselling, Mental Health & Chronic Conditions Management, as well as being a Mental Health First Aider.

What’s your background, how long have you been a mindset coach?

My journey to become a Life & Mindset Coach began during my Occupational Therapy studies. I was sitting in a lecture theater learning about mental illness, when I realised I had been plagued with Generalised Anxiety Disorder for many years. Not being one to sit and wallow, I sought out a way to heal my overactive, anxious, nervous mind. That is what ultimately led me to Life Coaching.

I soaked up all the information I could from some of the world's most renowned Life Coaches, healers, spiritual teachers & psychologists & alongside my naturopath completely healed myself of anxiety & the physical symptoms associated with it. Now I enjoy a mindset that feels light, spacious, calm with not a care in the world - that I can’t overcome at least ;)

I formally commenced my studies to become a BYCA Life Coach in 2020 - what a year hey! At the time I was stranded in NSW away from my fiancé, friends and family for 7 long months. But what a divine time to be supported by Australia’s most inspiring Life Coaches & soak up their expansive expertise! It remains one of the best life decisions I’ve made to date.

Tell us more about what a life and mindset coach is and how it can help people?

Life & Mindset Coaching is the most phenomenal gift you could give your higher self. Let me tell you why..

Imagine if after 3 months, you were the most confident & motivated version of yourself because fear and anxiety no longer held you back from living your dream life. You feel calm, balanced, light & free, exploding with happiness & attracting the most incredible abundance into your life. THAT is what I get to make happen for my coaching clients.

It’s honestly the most rewarding experience to witness my coaching clients go through the most transformational, LIFE CHANGING journey where they are accomplishing things they never dreamed possible - their words, not mine.

How can a Mindset Coach support people in relation to letting go of the FAD dieting cycle?

We’re all familiar with that destructive cycle aren’t we; we feel like crap, so we eat crappy food ‘to make us feel better’, beat ourselves up for eating the crappy food, feel guilty, hate on ourselves & how our bodies look & the cycle repeats. How does mindset coaching help - I teach women how to break this destructive cycle - for good.

After completing my Signature Coaching Series my clients are happier, kind to themselves, don’t use food as comfort, cherish themselves & adore their body. Food no longer has a hold over them.

What does working with you look like? What can people expect?

Transformation, in every area of their lives.

My Signature Coaching Series is a transformative self-development journey over 3 months whereby we have a coaching session via ZOOM every 2 weeks. In our first session together, you’re guided into harnessing your higher self to create the most imperative, positive, inspirational goals that we then work towards during each session. You are provided with so much accountability, so much support between sessions, it’s your journey but I’m there to support you the entire way.

If you're ready for a new approach to your “weight loss” journey, working with a mindset coach alongside an Accredited Practicing Dietitian is a great place to start.
