Arthritic Foot and Leg Care

Arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), psoriatic arthritis (PsA), osteoarthritis (OA), systemic lupus erythematosus (SKE), gout, and systemic sclerosis (SSs), often affects the feet and ankles. These changes can appear early, sometimes even before joint pain elsewhere.

Why Foot Health Matters

Your feet support you every day. But when affected by arthritis, foot pain, stiffness, swelling, or changes in shape can impact your ability to walk, work, or enjoy daily activities. If not managed early, arthritis can lead to joint damage, deformity, or even foot ulcers – particularly in individuals on long-term immune-modifying medications.

The Role of a Podiatrist

Podiatrists are foot health experts and are an important part of your arthritis care team.

They can offer:

  • Footwear and Orthotics to reduce pain and pressure

  • Gait assessment and tailored advice to support balance and mobility

  • Foot Mobilisation Therapy and Exercise Prescription to reduce pain and improve physical function.

  • MLS Laser Therapy to reduce pain and stiffness, improving mobility

  • Regular monitoring and early intervention to prevent complications

What to Expect At Your Appointment

Your podiatrist will:

  • Examine your foot joints, skin, nails, and how you walk

  • Provide personalised care for your symptoms and foot structure

  • Offer advice on safe footwear and long-term foot health strategies
